Meet the Artist

Bhama Sridharan is primarily a water colour artist who lives and paints from Bangalore, India.  She has an M.E. degree in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, and a Masters from McGill University Canada.  Though she started drawing and painting at a very young age, mainly in ink and oils, she lost touch with art for about 20 years in-between, when she concentrated on a software career and taking care of her family. About 6 years back, when she had to quit her job due to health reasons, art was what saved her and put her life back into focus.
For Bhama, painting is a passion that she cannot do without. She has done a number of paintings in oil and acrylic. Currently, the medium she finds most challenging is water colours, and has spent the last 3 years trying to master the subtleties and nuances of this fascinating art form. She specializes in sceneries also enjoys doing water colour portraits of family and friends.  She also loves to capture the innocence and playfulness of children in her compositions. She has completed an online art course on Art Forms in Coursera.

She has been regularly participating in Chitrasanthe for the last few years, the annual art festival conducted by Chitrakala Parishad. She has also taken part many times in the women artist festival “Akankasha”. (http://www.akankshas2014.blogspot.in/). She took part in the portraiture competition held during the 6th-anniversary celebrations of NGMA in March 2015, and her painting was selected as one of 10 to be exhibited at the NGMA premises.

Bhama also has a passion for the pure sciences, and in order for children to discover, experience and enjoy science, she has been running a science club for children for the last 16 years. Here children meet to conduct science experiments on their own so that they learn to love and appreciate science. Currently, she is working with Dream School Foundation, an NGO working with government schools, with an aim to spread her passion and energy to the science and math learning of the underprivileged children. She is also a part of Anubhava Science Foundation, which works with science education for government schools.
